Dear Abby,

I am in need of some advice.

I just moved back home for the summer after being away at school in the city. After living in the middle of everything, my small town feels like the middle of nowhere. It’s been hard to adjust to living in a place that used to be familiar, but no longer feels like home.

I feel like I’ve taken 5 steps back in independence. I don’t have a car. I’m either working or cooped up in my room all day. My friends are all pretty far away. And I feel like I’m a child again.

I miss my friends, roommates, community, city — coffee/tea shops, farmers markets, downtown.

What can I do to get out of this summer slump?

Sincerely,

Far-from-home

  1. It must be difficult to go through that situation… I’ve never been there, but I can imagine it’s not nice to be “like a child” again. I guess you’ll have to wait untill you get back to school.
